Philosophy

My films emerge from years of living and working in natural environments across different continents. Rather than presenting a fixed theory, the reflections collected here have gradually developed through filmmaking itself. They attempt to articulate a philosophy of seeing, creating, and reconnecting with the living world.

A Philosophy of Seeing

Seeing is not the acquisition of visual information, but an embodied encounter with the living world. Through the body, perception extends beyond vision into time, sound, atmosphere, memory, and presence. The camera is not merely a recording device; it becomes an extension of perception, allowing filmmaker and world to enter into a shared field of experience.

Natural filmmaking is grounded in patience, attentiveness, and openness. Rather than controlling nature, it seeks to enter into its rhythms, allowing moments to emerge through encounter rather than intention.

A Philosophy of Reconnection

Natural filmmaking is inevitably fragmentary. Every image emerges from a particular place, moment, and encounter. Filmed across different continents, climates, and years, each fragment bears the traces of a singular experience. Editing does not erase these discontinuities; rather, it reconnects fragments into the continuity of the living world. Cinema, in this sense, does not invent relationships—it reveals those that already exist beyond geographical, temporal, and climatic boundaries.

My work does not begin with the ambition to change the world. It begins with the conviction that the world already possesses its own integrity and continuity. Natural filmmaking is therefore not an act of imposing meaning upon reality, but of patiently entering into its rhythms, attending to its unfolding, and revealing relationships that precede human interpretation.

For me,

cinema is neither a tool for mastering nature

nor a means of escaping it.

It is a practice of returning—

returning to perception,

returning to relationships,

returning to the continuity of the living world.
